You are probably familiar with the cylindrical craft beads that can be placed on a pegboard and fused together with heat. Over the next few weeks, you will receive lots of tips on how to do this.
In 1971, a Danish entrepreneur developed iron-on beads. Since then, these small pieces, now produced by many manufacturers, have delighted the hands of young and old creative people.
The beads can either be strung on thread and sewn on somewhere, or you can place the colorful pieces on a pegboard in the classic way and then fuse one side by applying heat. Depending on the motif, this task can be very challenging and the subsequent "ironing" carries the risk of burning the material or the body. It is therefore worth paying attention to a few points.
- Individual beads are very small. Do not leave them unattended near small children so that they do not swallow them.
- Iron the beads together yourself or help your child to do this so that they do not burn themselves.
- When ironing, place a baking paper between the hot iron and the beads to prevent the plastic from sticking to the hot surface.
- Hold the hot iron in the same place for about eight seconds before moving the hot iron part.
- Use medium heat with the iron. If the pegboard is heated during ironing, you will either melt the bead base or the pegboard will bend under the heat and can no longer be used later.
Coasters or hangers made from pegboard beads look exciting and are relatively easy to make, as long as you follow the tips mentioned above.
We will be presenting more creative ideas on this page over the next few weeks.
