Discover yourself

Children's own self-perception shapes how they move through the world. You can help your child to develop a healthy image of themselves and gain confidence in their own abilities.

Self-perception begins at an early age and changes constantly throughout childhood. Children perceive themselves through feelings, experiences and feedback from their environment. How they see themselves influences their mood, their self-confidence and their willingness to try out new things. As parents, you can make a decisive contribution to ensuring that this perception remains positive and realistic.

The first step is to listen and observe. Take note of how your child describes himself, what strengths he mentions and where his insecurities lie. Confirm their abilities without withholding criticism and at the same time show them ways to grow in the face of challenges. Honest, appreciative feedback will strengthen their self-image in the long term.

Physical activities or creative pursuits also help to develop an awareness of one's own abilities. Whether cycling, at the gymnastics club or painting: children feel their strengths, experience a sense of achievement and learn to recognize limits. Even small successes in everyday life, such as preparing breakfast independently or tidying the room, contribute to self-awareness.

Talking about feelings is key. Encourage your child to name and reflect on their feelings. In this way, they learn to perceive and express themselves without comparing themselves to others. A healthy self-image is created through a balance between one's own expectations and realistic assessments.

Digital media can influence self-image. Show your child how to use social media critically and consciously and explain that many images do not correspond to reality. Shared activities and real-life experiences help to boost self-esteem and focus on their own abilities.

With patience, attention and small rituals, you can create a framework in which your child can get to know themselves better. This not only promotes self-confidence, but also empathy, perseverance and the ability to value oneself - important tools for a healthy upbringing.

Have fun and patience!
