Simple household remedy to reduce fever
Fever
Who hasn't experienced this? First you shiver, have chills and then you feel your body temperature rise. Fever means an increase in body temperature above the normal value. It is often an accompanying symptom of infectious diseases. In this case, fever serves to improve the immune response. This means that your immune cells can work better at a higher temperature. Reducing the fever with medication can therefore have a negative effect on the further course of the disease.
Treatment of fever
Fever can be alleviated in various ways. Doctors recommend that fever in adults should only be reduced from a temperature of 40 degrees and in children from 39.5 degrees. Excluded from these recommendations are children under 3 years of age, people with heart conditions, severe inner restlessness and impaired consciousness during fever.
This applies to both the medicinal and alternative treatment of fever.
Make sure that you drink enough fluids in the form of unsweetened tea or water. In addition, you should always be well and warmly covered.
As already mentioned, there are also medicines that reduce fever. The so-called antipyretics suppress the body's reaction to increase body temperature. This reduces the fever again.
Always remember that fever is a reaction of the immune system. It tries to deal with and eliminate the trigger of the illness by raising the body temperature. Therefore, there are alternatives to reduce the fever without interfering with the immune system's process.
Mother's vinegar socks
You will need:
- Linen cloths (for example a tea towel, an old T-shirt)
- terry towel
- 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
- Cotton socks (no synthetics!)
- Small basin
Fill the basin with approx. 1 liter of lukewarm water. Add the 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar and stir briefly. Place the linen cloth or T-shirt cut into strips in the basin and allow it to soak. Take it out of the basin and wring it out. It should no longer drip, but still be damp.
Wrap it around the feet and half of the calf. It should not wrinkle and should fit tightly. Finally, pull the cotton socks over them. Before you lie down, wrap your feet with the terry towel. Leave the vinegar socks on for 10-20 minutes.
You can repeat the procedure after 45-60 minutes if necessary. It is important to take breaks so that the temperature does not drop too quickly and become too strenuous for the circulation.
Vinegar socks are suitable for infants aged 12 months and over.
We wish you a speedy recovery.
