Paper cupping - creative with paper and paint

New, individual handicrafts are created from old paper. Using the cupping technique, you and your children can create unique leaves - sustainably and full of joy.

Making paper yourself is a great craft project for the whole family. With water, patience and a few simple tools, new, high-quality paper is created from old newspapers, letters or cardboard. In the process, children discover the cycle of nature and learn how valuable resources are.

The cupping technique gives the paper a special texture: small scraps of paper, dried flowers or leaves are worked into the damp paper pulp and lifted out with a sieve. This creates unique, decorative leaves that can be used as cards, wrapping paper or works of art .

You will need:

  • Old newspapers, crumpled up
  • water
  • Blender or hand blender
  • Coarse sieve or frame with mesh (scoop frame)
  • Cloths or sponges
  • Dried leaves, flowers or scraps of paper for decoration

This is how it works:

  1. Tear the paper into small pieces and place in a large bowl of water.
  2. Use a blender or hand blender to turn the paper into a pulp.
  3. Dip the scoop into the water and spread the paper mixture evenly.
  4. If desired, place dried leaves or scraps of paper on top of the wet mixture and press down lightly.
  5. Carefully lift the frame out of the water and allow the water to drip off.
  6. Place the paper on an absorbent cloth and carefully dab dry with a sponge.
  7. Once dry, the paper can be further processed or painted.

Tip: Patience pays off: The thinner the paper mass, the more transparent and delicate the result will be.

With this project, you can create sustainable works of art that are fun and stimulate the imagination!
