In our series of health tips, we show you how to get mentally fit with targeted brain jogging exercises in everyday life. In this issue, you will learn how to improve your memory, among other things.
Brain jogging is a term for special mental exercises designed to maintain or improve thinking performance in the long term. Many of them can be carried out without additional material and require little time. Ideally, you should integrate some brain jogging exercises into your everyday life, for example by using them to bridge waiting times. Why not try the following exercises:
Concentration and creativity
Form a sentence consisting of five words that all begin with the same letter. For the letter "M", for example, this would be: "Milk cheers up tired men." This exercise boosts your concentration and creativity. To increase the level of difficulty, try to form the sentence as quickly as possible and challenge yourself with more difficult letters such as "Y".
Concentration and coordination
Bend the thumb, index finger and middle finger of your left hand inwards towards your palm. On the right hand, bend the little finger, thumb and ring finger. Now try to change this finger position in parallel: In other words, bend the fingers that were previously stretched and vice versa. This exercise requires an amazing amount of concentration and coordination skills. The faster you complete the exercise, the more difficult it becomes.
Concentration and memory
For this exercise, you will need a watch and a text that you have not yet read. This could be a newspaper article, a book or a brochure, for example. Now stop the time for two minutes and try to read as much text as possible. Then repeat the text as accurately as possible. It gets really difficult when you try to count how many times a certain word appears in the text (e.g. "but"). This exercise improves your concentration and memory enormously.
Try it out right away!
