What teenagers are good at

All too often, people talk about today's young people behind closed doors. I often hear people say that young people no longer have a proper language. Or they say they just hang around, smoke and drink. Many people think they know that teenagers have no desire or motivation to exercise.

But is that true? Do you have to raise the alarm when an adolescent says: "This is the best thing that's ever happened!"? When I see a group of young people sitting on a staircase, do they hang around all day - or are they perhaps waiting for the bus? In general: sometimes adults seem to make it very easy for themselves by pigeonholing people. It's also really convenient to lump a whole group together.

This can be remedied. Just recently, I listened to two cultural workers who emphasized that young people are always coming up with new ideas and are very creative. What else can you say? Want some examples?

Teenagers are very good at that:

• Argue fiercely
• Being friends
• Fall in love
• Looking strange
• Being convincing and persuasive
• Conquering new territory
• Criticizing parents
