The work-life balance

A question of attitude?

Work-life balance refers to the balance between work - family - leisure time . What this balance looks like is different for each person. Our individual attitude is decisive in how we experience a situation. For example, some people need more free time than others, just as the intensity of the workload is experienced differently or how pressure can be dealt with.

What is the same for everyone is that a good work-life balance is important for a healthy and balanced life. What the "perfect" balance looks like can vary greatly depending on your life situation .

The prerequisite for a balanced life is a mindful approach to yourself. Record your current actual situation:

  • Make a note of what is important to you. This includes everything from health and family to job and finances ! Now take each individual point and evaluate it. For example, your job: are you over/underchallenged, are your work areas organized so that you can work clearly? Are there breaks for short rests? Do you often work overtime? Do you feel comfortable at your workplace? Do you get on well with your colleagues? What makes you happy? What annoys you?

This will help you become aware of where there is a need for action. Decide which points you want to change most urgently, think about how to implement them and take action.

Take action?
Often easier said than done!
Tell your boss that there is no time for a project, cancel the Sunday brunch at the in-laws' to spend time with your own little family? You can expect negative comments or reactions. But remember: it's no good to anyone if you're at the end of your tether! Least of all yourself.
But you might also get some great feedback! Perhaps the boss doesn't even realize that he is overworking his employees - because he is under a lot of pressure himself. The parents-in-law may find the idea of a "Sunday morning off" tempting so that they can finally go on a brunch cruise with their friends.

"The key is not to prioritize what's on your schedule, but to set deadlines for your priorities."
Quote from Stephen R. Covey
