Egg dyeing is a great way to start the Easter season with your children. There are various ways in which you can dye colorful Easter eggs with your children.
For classic dyeing with onion skins you need water, raw or boiled eggs and onion skins. Boil the onion skins in the water until a yellow broth has formed. Then boil the raw eggs in the onion stock for 10 minutes. If you are using eggs that are already cooked, put the pan to one side and place the eggs in the hot, but no longer boiling, stock for a few minutes. Depending on how much onion skin you use and how long you leave the eggs in the stock, the eggs will turn yellow to light brown. If you want to conjure up patterns on your eggs, place a leaf on the egg , for example, and tie it with sewing thread so that it lies completely on the egg. The area where the leaf lies will change color less intensely and create a great pattern.
To color eggs with tea you will need 4 tea bags, 1 tablespoon of vinegar and hard-boiled, still hot eggs. Put the tea bags and vinegar in a cup and pour hot water over it. Leave the tea to infuse for 10 minutes. Place the still hot eggs in the tea for 15 - 20 minutes.
What color do you get with which tea?
- Light yellow: peppermint, nettle, sage, lemon balm
- Yellow: green tea, camomile, herbal tea blend
- Orange/brown: black tea
- Gray: fruit tea blends, rose hip
For coloring eggs with food coloring you need vinegar, water, hard-boiled, still hot eggs and food coloring. You can find food coloring in large grocery stores in the cake decorating section. Pour 2.5 dl of cold water and 2 tablespoons of vinegar into a cup. Add a few drops of food coloring to the liquid and stir until the coloring has completely dissolved. Place the hot eggs in the liquid for 5 minutes.
Experiment with the colors and create colorful Easter eggs. The colorful eggs are suitable as a colorful table decoration at Easter or as a gift for an Easter celebration.
