Painful stinging or throbbing pain in your head? Don't let it spoil your day. Here are a few home remedies that will put an end to headaches.
Do you know this too? After a long day at work or constant pre-Christmas stress, you feel a dull pressure behind your eyes, a stinging sensation, a painful throbbing or a pounding in your head. Here are a few "home remedies" that will hopefully help you feel better quickly.
- Drink enough (1.5 to 2 liters per day). A common reason for headaches is a lack of fluids. If you drink too little, your blood becomes "thicker", the oxygen supply to the cells decreases and your head starts to hurt.
- Foods with a lot of magnesium can help with headaches. Magnesium relaxes the muscles. It is abundant in wholemeal bread, green vegetables and nuts.
- Eat regularly. Hunger or a drop in blood sugar levels can trigger headaches.
- Be sporty. Endurance sports prevent headaches. Tip: Exercise at least three times a week for 30 minutes.
- Protect yourself from bright light. Protect yourself with sunglasses or a hat and sit in the shade. Also important in winter.
- Reduce or avoid stress. Stress can promote headaches. Active relaxation can be helpful here.
- Cold. Place a cold cloth (soaked in cold water or filled with ice cubes) or gel goggles from the freezer on your temples, forehead or neck for a minute. Pause for at least three minutes and repeat the process a few times.
- Heat. If tense muscles are the cause of your headache, a heat pack can bring relief. For example, with a heated cherry stone cushion or a hairdryer massage. To do this, simply let the air flow over your neck, shoulders and the back of your head for three to five minutes at a comfortable heat level.
- Fresh air. Open the windows and ventilate the entire home, office or study. A walk in the fresh air will clear your head and banish the pain.
- Massage. Massage the painful areas with your index and middle fingers, applying light pressure for about 5 minutes.
- Peppermint oil. Massage a little peppermint oil into your temples. This gives a refreshing and cooling sensation that relaxes the muscles and helps to relieve headaches. Do not use this tip on children.
