A simple recipe for soft lips - ideal for making with children
In winter, lips are often dry or chapped - the cold, wind and dry heating air are hard on delicate skin. Homemade lip care provides a remedy and makes cooking fun. With just a few ingredients and a little patience, you can create a natural balm that nourishes, protects and smells wonderful. Even children love to help: Measuring ingredients, stirring, decorating little tins - making lip balm quickly becomes a family project. You might even make a small gift for a friend, grandparent or godparent.
The basic recipe (makes approx. 4-5 small jars)
Ingredients:
- 2 tbsp beeswax (pellets or grated)
- 2 tbsp shea butter or cocoa butter
- 2 tbsp coconut oil or almond oil
- If desired: a few drops of essential oil (for example orange, lavender or peppermint)
Also:
- small glass jars or lip balm tubes
- Old jam jars or cups for melting in a bain-marie
- Wooden sticks for stirring
- Labels, stickers or washi tape to decorate
This is how it works:
- Prepare the bain-marie: Fill a small saucepan with a little water and heat over a medium heat.
- Melt the fat: Place the beeswax, butter and oil in a glass or heatproof cup and melt slowly in a bain-marie. Stir occasionally with a wooden stick.
- Scent: When everything is liquid, remove from the heat and add a few drops of essential oil as desired.
- Fill: Pour the warm mixture immediately into prepared tins or tubes. Leave to harden - this takes about 30 minutes.
- Decorate: As soon as everything is solid, the children can paint the containers or decorate them with labels.
Tips for creative variations:
- With color: For a light shade of pink, a touch of beetroot powder or a small piece of lipstick (for adults) is suitable.
- With flavor: A drop of vanilla extract or honey provides a subtle note - particularly popular with children.
- With shine: A little mica powder conjures up shine on the lips, without any chemicals.
Homemade lip care is more than just a care product. It provides valuable time with the family, stimulates the senses and makes creative minds shine. Ideal for a winter afternoon at home - with warm punch, soft music and a smile on your lips.
Have fun being creative!
