Make your own granola

Crunchy between the teeth

Granola is a term used to describe a crunchy muesli made from oat flakes and honey . Originally, granola does not contain household sugar, but sweeteners such as syrup, honey, maple syrup, pearl or agave syrup. It's up to you what you put in your personal granola.
You can enjoy it soaked in milk like muesli or as a crunchy ingredient in a Bircher muesli. Granolas also make a delicious gift when you are invited to a party.

If you make your own crunchy muesli, store it in airtight bags or sealable jars. The shelf life depends on the ingredients and averages two weeks. Therefore, only make as much as you can eat in this time.
Please note that the granola only becomes hard and crunchy when it has cooled completely.

Crispy muesli (for approx. 900g)
Preheat your oven to 175 degrees.
Boil 1dl water, 100g sugar, 2 tbsp honey and 1 pinch of salt until all the ingredients have completely dissolved. Add ½ dl rapeseed oil, 400g coarse rolled oats, 80g coconut flakes, 80g flaked almonds and 1.5 tsp cinnamon . Mix everything together evenly. Spread the mixture on a baking tray lined with baking paper. Bake the granola in the oven for 45 minutes until it is crispy and dry. Turn the mixture every 10 minutes during the baking time.
Switch off the oven.
Cut 50g dried apricots into small pieces. Mix the apricots, 100g dried cranberries and 50g grapes into the muesli. Place the tray back in the warm oven and leave to dry with the oven door slightly open. Leave to cool directly in the oven.

  • Instead of just oat flakes, you can use other cereal flakes such as millet or spelt.

Granola with bananas, nuts, chocolate and coconut
Preheat your oven to 160 degrees.
Roughly chop 75g almonds and 50g pecan nuts. Mix the nuts with 250g fine rolled oats, 50g shredded coconut and ¼ tsp salt. Mix 1 large banana, 75ml maple syrup and 1 tbsp brown cane sugar and blend until smooth. Add the banana syrup to the flakes and mix until all the flakes and nuts are coated with syrup. Spread the muesli on a baking tray lined with baking paper. Bake for 25 - 35 minutes. Turn every 10 minutes.
Chop 75g dark chocolate into small cubes. Mix with the hot granola. Mix again after 10 minutes so that the melted chocolate can coat everything. Chill the granola so that the chocolate can harden again.
