Protection against wind and weather

It's that time of year again. Temperatures are low outside and comfortably warm indoors. What sounds so cozy can be quite stressful for our skin . Constant temperature differences constantly challenge it to adapt.

When we are cold, our blood vessels contract so that not too much body heat is lost. However, this withdrawal means that our skin loses an important source of moisture. The protective layer on the skin is inadequately supplied.

In addition, the constant changes in temperature dry out the skin , making it brittle and, in the worst case, cracked. Unclothed areas of the body such as the hands, arms and legs are particularly affected, as they have fewer sebaceous glands and are therefore less able to supply themselves with moisture.

Top rule: in winter , your skin needs more oil and moisture as blood circulation and sebum production are reduced.

Tips for your skin in winter:

  • Use moisturizing creams. Also apply cream to your body during the cold season. Arms and legs are particularly prone to drying out, skin flakes and itching.
  • Take a shower rather than a bath. Hot water also dries out the skin. So if you do take a bath, then at a maximum temperature of 35 degrees, only 1-2 times a week and preferably with an "oil bath additive" that makes the skin nice and soft.
  • Shower only briefly so as not to dry out your skin even more.
  • Protect your hands with gloves and your face with a scarf in extremely cold weather.
  • Give preference to lipid-based creams that have a moisturizing effect.
  • Watch out for UV radiation! Protect yourself with a high sun protection factor even in winter. Especially if you are out in the snow. This also reflects the sun's rays, which can cause sunburn even more quickly.
  • Don't forget your ears. They are also exposed to constant changes in temperature and could do with a dose of sunscreen and moisturizer.
  • Protect your lips. There are special lip balms with sun protection and nourishing moisturizers.
  • Before applying make-up, your skin should be nourished with a rich cream.

You can moisturize your skin not only from the outside. Make sure that you drink enough. Even if your thirst is less pronounced than on hot days, it is advisable to drink two liters of liquid per day.
