Teenagers and going out

How long can teenagers stay out at night?

Does your Tenny want to spend more and more time with his friends? And not just during the day, but also in the evenings? That's quite normal. At this age, teenagers increasingly want to spend time with their peers. For minors, it is up to the parents to decide how long their child is allowed to stay out in the evenings. Discuss with your teen what he or she wants to do, how long he or she wants to stay out and when and how he or she will get home. In most cases, teenagers can assess themselves quite well and make sensible suggestions. At the weekend, 12-14 year olds can stay out until 11pm. 15-16 year olds should be home by midnight. During the week, school-age children should only go out in exceptional cases, as it is very important for teenagers to get enough sleep.

Discuss with your child in advance what they would like to do and with whom, and then ask them how they will get there. It is also important to find out whether alcohol is served at this location and how to deal with it. You should also find out when they will be back home and who they will be going home with.

Make a binding agreement with your teenager about what is not allowed under any circumstances. For example, riding in the car with strangers or drunk people. Talk to them about drugs and how to deal with them and make your position clear to them. But also listen carefully to what your child already knows about it and how they want to deal with it. The subject of sexuality should also be discussed.

It is always a good idea to be available by phone when your teenager is out on their own.

Have fun accompanying your teen into adulthood!
