Christmas bells - creative from old flower pots

Old flower pots become charming Christmas bells that add a festive atmosphere to any home. With little effort and a little color, you can create a sustainable and personal decoration for the Advent season.

Disused clay or ceramic flower pots are perfect for transforming into pretty Christmas bells. The robust pots can be painted, glued or decorated with glitter - turning garden accessories into magical decorations.

Use acrylic paints in red, white or gold to give the pots a festive touch. If you like, paint stars, fir branches or small snowflakes on them. To hang them up, thread a ribbon through the hole in the base and tie a knot. A small bell can be attached inside to make the decoration ring.

These Christmas bells not only look great on the Christmas tree, but also on windows, doors or as an eye-catcher on the Advent table. Several bells in different sizes and colors look particularly beautiful - creating a lively arrangement full of warmth.

Crafting with the children is fun and conjures up shared anticipation of the festive season. Old flower pots are turned into a lasting memory that will bring joy year after year.

Materials:

  • Small clay or ceramic flower pots turned upside down as bells
  • Acrylic paints or poster paints
  • paintbrush
  • Cord, ribbon or jute twine
  • Small bell or large wooden bead
  • Hot glue or craft glue
  • Optional: glitter, stars, fabric scraps, fir branches, gold foil

This is how it works:

  1. Clean and prime: Clean the flower pots well and paint them with a white base color if desired - this will make the colors stand out more later.
  2. Paint and decorate: Decorate the outside surface with Christmas motifs: Stars, fir branches, snowflakes or simply paint in gold, red or silver. If you like, decorate with glitter, sticky stones or scraps of fabric.
  3. Attach the suspension: Pull a piece of string or cord through the drainage hole in the bottom of the pot. Attach a small bell or a large wooden bead to the bottom end - it serves as the "sound box" of the bell. Tie a knot at the top or form a loop for hanging.
  4. Leave to dry: Allow the painted bells to dry thoroughly. If you like, fix the paint with transparent craft varnish.
  5. Decorate: The finished bells can be hung on doors, window handles, branches or the Christmas tree. They also make an impression as table decorations or small gifts.

Tips: Use waterproof paints and weatherproof ribbons if the bells are to be hung outside. Several bells of different sizes look particularly beautiful when hung together - for example on a branch or as a mobile.

Have fun making them!
