With little effort and a lot of charm, old cups can be turned into little green eye-catchers. Whether on the parlour table, at breakfast or as a souvenir - planted cups bring color and joy to everyday life.
Do you still have a few cups in the cupboard that are too good to give away but are no longer used every day? Perfect! They make wonderful mini-gardens for your table. Simply place some expanded clay or small stones on the bottom of the cup as drainage, fill with potting soil and plant as you please - for example with succulents, herbs or small flowers.
Groups of different cup shapes and sizes look particularly pretty. Arranged on a tray or placed directly on the table, this creates a playful, personal decoration. Children are also happy to help with the planting - turning the whole thing into a creative family project.
Tip: Make sure that no water remains when watering, otherwise the roots could rot. Plants that need little moisture are ideal. If you like, you can also decorate the cups with waterproof pens or write small messages on them - turning a simple idea into a real eye-catcher.
You will need:
- Old cups or small mugs
- Small plants (e.g. succulents or herbs) or candles
- Decorative elements such as bows, dried flowers or fruit
- Possibly potting soil or sand for plants
This is how it works:
- Clean and dry the cup well.
- If you are using plants, put some soil or sand in the cup.
- Carefully insert the plant or candle.
- Decorate with decorative elements as desired - tie bows around the handle or place dried flowers next to it.
- Arrange on the table and enjoy the cozy atmosphere.
Tip:
Robust plants and weatherproof decorations are particularly suitable for the outdoor table. Indoors, scented candles and fresh herbs create a special ambience.
Have fun making and enjoying!
