Help with forgetfulness

Fitness for your brain

Has your memory ever let you down? Have you been unable to remember a name or have you spent hours looking for your wallet because you forgot where you last put it? If one or the other applies to you, you should not immediately think of dementia or Alzheimer's disease. Such memory lapses are often associated with stress, tiredness or distraction and absent-mindedness.

To minimize forgetful moments, it is important to train your brain:

  • Exercise regularly.
This not only keeps your body fit, but also your brain. Increased blood circulation supplies your brain with more blood and therefore more oxygen. Dancing is particularly suitable as it also improves your coordination skills .
  • Use your senses
No matter what you are doing, use your senses. For example: When you go outside: What do you smell? What do you see? What does it remind you of? By consciously using your senses, you awaken memories and thus train your perception and attention.
  • Face obstacles in your everyday life
By making certain everyday situations more difficult, you can face new challenges and get your brain cells working. Example:
    - Turn the newspaper upside down and try to decipher the words.
    - Are you right-handed? Try incorporating your left hand into your everyday life by letting it take over some of the tasks of your right hand. For example: writing down the shopping list, scooping the food or holding the shower tap when showering. Be creative and take on new tasks.
  • Don't let your brain get bored, do something about it
    - Pay attention to the lyrics while listening to music and try to memorize and repeat them.
    - Solve Sudokus and other puzzle games.
    - Read books and watch documentaries and quiz shows.
  • Eat a healthy and balanced diet
Nuts, for example, are rich in unsaturated fatty acids, which are important for the cells in the brain. They boost your concentration and learning ability and strengthen your memory.
  • Get a goodnight's sleep to give your brain the rest it needs.

Don't be too hard on yourself the next time you go to the cellar and can't remember why you went there. Forgetting is human. You were probably distracted and had other things on your mind. It's best to go back to your apartment and try to let go of what you've forgotten. Because then it will certainly come back to you. Try it out, we wish you exciting experiences.
