Experience unforgettable adventures in the great outdoors.
Hiking is one of the most popular sports in Switzerland. This is especially true in spring, summer and fall. In the cold season, however, the popularity of hiking decreases and many people don't even think about hiking. Yet winter hiking offers great health benefits. Ideally, the next adventure is usually right on your doorstep. Whether in the snow or through fields and meadows, there are beautiful things to discover everywhere. You don't need any special equipment or years of experience for winter hiking.
If you love the crunching snow under your feet, we recommend hiking on signposted and prepared hiking trails in the mountain regions of Switzerland. Look for a suitable route and find out about the difficulty level, the length of the hike and the weather conditions.
There are beautiful winter hikes in the following places:
1. Zermatt - Gornergrat: This hike offers breathtaking views of the Matterhorn and the surrounding peaks. The trail is well prepared and leads through an impressive winter landscape.
2. Engadin - St. Moritz: The Engadin region has numerous winter hiking trails that lead through idyllic villages and along the frozen Lake Silvaplana. The route from St. Moritz to Sils is particularly recommended.
3. Arosa - Lenzerheide: This hike connects the two villages and offers magnificent views of the surrounding mountains. The paths are well marked and suitable for all levels of difficulty.
4. Jungfrau Region - Lauterbrunnen: The hike through the Lauterbrunnen Valley is a real winter fairytale. The snow-covered waterfalls and impressive mountains make this trail particularly appealing.
5. Davos - Klosters: The winter hiking trails in this region are varied and offer both easy and more challenging routes. The views of the Alps are spectacular.
6. Gstaad - Saanenmöser: This hike leads through a beautiful winter landscape with traditional chalets and offers a peaceful atmosphere.
It is advisable to walk only on signposted winter hiking trails. Make sure you have suitable shoes and winter walking poles with you. Depending on the terrain, snowshoes may also be necessary. Wear several layers so that you can put on or take off your clothes as required. A waterproof and windproof jacket and trousers are essential. Warm underwear, thermal socks, gloves and a merino wool hat also help to keep your body warm from head to toe. You should also take plenty of water, snacks, a map, a compass and a cell phone with GPS function. A first aid kit and a whistle should also be in your rucksack. It is generally advisable not to go hiking alone, but in pairs or in a group. This way you can support each other and get help in an emergency.
As well as enjoying the beautiful views and fresh air, you can also identify many animals by their tracks in the snow on the hike. You can also book a guided hike.
Have fun hiking and enjoy!
