What is quilling and how does it work?


Quilling, also known as paper filigree, is an art form in which narrow strips of paper are rolled, shaped and glued into various forms to create decorative designs. This technique is suitable for decorating cards, picture frames, jewelry and much more.

Materials

  • Quilling paper strips
  • Quilling tool, which is a pen with a slit at the tip to roll up the paper strips
  • Glue and tweezers

Procedure

  • Roll the strips of paper into different shapes such as circles, drops or spirals.
  • Then join them together to form a larger design.
  • Now carefully glue the individual pieces together.



Some decorating ideas for quilling are:

Murals: Create a large work of art by joining different quilling elements together to form a picture.
Greeting cards: Decorate cards with small quilling motifs such as flowers or hearts.
Jewelry: Create earrings or pendants from quilling elements.
Picture frames: Decorate the edges of a picture frame with quilling designs.
