Creative use of Christmas leftovers

Delicacies for the whole family - without food waste.

After the festive season, there is often more left over than can be eaten: Roast, Härdöpfelstock, red cabbage, biscuits... Instead of dumping these delicious things in the bin, it's worth taking a second look in the fridge. Surprisingly delicious new dishes can be conjured up from leftovers from Christmas dinner - uncomplicated, sustainable and often even better than the original. And children love helping out in the kitchen. Chopping, stirring or seasoning often results in completely new creations. This turns the use of leftovers into a family project. Perhaps your children will even invent their own "Christmas leftovers recipe" that will be on the table again next year?

1. waffles, casseroles and gratin dreams

Using puff pastry or cake dough from the fridge, you can make a delicious leftover tart in no time at all. Simply place the dough in a baking tray, spread leftovers such as vegetables, diced meat or cheese on top and pour over a glaze of cream and egg. Season with a little nutmeg and herbs and pop into the oven. Härdöpfelstock can also be used as a gratin - baked with a little grated cheese, it makes a delicious snack.

2. leftover soup for cold days

Make a delicious winter soup from leftover meat, vegetables and a little stock. Chop everything into small pieces, sauté with a little onion, add water and season - and the family portion is ready. Dumplings or rice from the day before also go wonderfully with it. If you like, add a spoonful of cream or fresh herbs at the end.

3. sandwiches, toasts & snack ideas

Cold slices of meat, cheese, a little sauce or chutney? This makes a delicious sandwich for on the go or for a snack the next day. Especially popular with children: Toast with ham and cheese, baked in the oven or fried in a pan. Served with a glass of apple juice or tea - and everyone is happy.

4. sweet leftovers

Biscuits, gingerbread or leftover cake can be layered with quark or yogurt to make a delicious dessert glass. If you have leftover vanilla sauce or cream, you can combine it with fruit - for example with grated apple, pear or some berry compote.

With these tips, Christmas leftovers are no longer a problem - but an invitation to get creative. With a little imagination, a few spices and attention to detail, you can create new dishes that everyone will love. This way, the magic of the festive season will last a little longer - without any food waste.

Have fun trying it out!
